Many associations and organizations offer specific energy efficiency courses and conferences. A small sample of courses and conferences are highlighted below.

Training Courses

  • The EEBA Institute of Building Construction Technology features a building science and practice based professional development curriculum specifically designed for the quickly changing building industry. The Institute is an educational resource for new technologies and innovations, the latest research findings, as well as, the basics in building science.


  • Home Energy Magazine provides a list of training programs that focus on the whole-house approach to homebuilding and renovation. The goal of the whole-house approach is to build resource - efficient buildings that are healthy for the people in them and for the environment. Search for courses by state by clicking on the corresponding link above.


  • The Building Performance Institute promotes excellence in the contracting trades by establishing standards of performance for technicians and providing certifications for qualified contractors. Explore the BPI website for information on certification.


  • NAHB Research Center, a National Housing Quality Trade Contractor Certification Program.

Nationally there are a number of organizations that provide rater training that can lead to certification as a home energy rater of a national accredited home energy rating system.

A number of organizations also provide training and certification. Search the web for various organizations such as the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development Training Center, the Weatherization Center for Excellence, and Saturn Resource Management.

Conferences

  • Affordable Comfort Conference is an annual training event for building professionals on technical aspects of how to remodel, repair, build, and diagnose homes, so they perform their best. Visit the Affordable Comfort website for detailed information on conference dates.


  • The State Energy Program/Rebuild America National Conference is a valuable training event. In 2002, nearly 500 attendees from states and communities across the United States participated in the training conference. Participants exchanged ideas and information with national experts, technology vendors, and colleagues. Access information through the DOE website.


  • EEBA Annual Conference. EEBA holds a conference every year and provides useful information on energy efficiency. Their conference webpage highlights presentations and information on the annual conference, including information on registration and past speakers. To access their conference page, click on the corresponding link above.


  • The RESNET Annual Conference offers an opportunity to interact with industry experts and others to share the latest information on successful program delivery. The conference is a premier national forum on residential energy efficiency financing and home energy ratings.


  • NAHB Conferences. The NAHB holds several conferences throughout the year including the Annual Builders Show, Annual Green Buildings Conference, and the Annual Remodelers Conference. For detailed information on each conference, click on the corresponding link above.


  • US Green Building Council (USGBC), Annual Green Building Conference. The USGBC holds an annual Green Building Conference. This weeklong conference includes a large group of exhibitors and over 4000 registrants. This conference highlights green building practices that are approaching mainstream.


  • The Bi-Annual Weatherization Program National Conference. A conference aimed at a large range of participants, the Weatherization Conference provides basics as well as sessions that embark on the cutting-edge technological advancements in the Weatherization Program.
